Patches4space

What if the most powerful symbols of space exploration… were only a few inches wide?

Welcome to Patches for Space, where art, history, and human exploration intersect.

Join Dr. Sian Proctor—astronaut, geoscientist, and artist—and Beth Mund, former NASA Public Affairs Officer and founder of STORIES of Space, as they decode the visual language of NASA mission patches.

These aren’t just emblems—they are compressed stories, carrying the identity, ambition, and legacy of every mission and crew that ventures beyond Earth.

The Art Behind Exploration

In This Episode, We Explore

The Origins of NASA’s Identity

From the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA) to the founding of NASA, we trace how visual identity evolved into one of the most recognizable symbols in the world. The “Meatball” vs. 🔴 The “Worm”

A design debate that reflects more than aesthetics—these logos represent different eras of exploration, innovation, and philosophy within NASA.
